San Francisco-based importer Tequilas Premium is set to introduce its ultra-premium Clase Azul Tequila brand to six new markets, including Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Hawaii, Washington and South Carolina. Southern Wine & Spirits will distribute the brand in the latter three states. M.S. Walker will handle it in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, and Eder Brothers has taken it on in Connecticut. The new agreements extend Clase Azul’s coverage to 22 states. The company tells Shanken News Daily another five states are expected to come online before the end of the year.

A partnership between former Southern sales manager John Hanson and master distiller Arturo Lomeli, Clase Azul debuted in California in 2004, and is growing at around 30% annually from a small base. Its line includes a Plata retailing at $79.99; a Reposado at $89.99 a 750-ml.; and a luxury Tequila Clase Ultra, an Añejo aged five years and retailing at around $2,000. The portfolio also includes a pomegranate-infused Tequila, La Pinta ($39.99), which was recently repackaged.
