Patrón’s McDonnell Moves Overseas To Spearhead Company’s Global EffortJanuary 4, 2013
With Patrón Tequila now developing a profile in overseas markets, chief operating officer John McDonnell has been promoted to the newly created position of president, international of Patrón Spirits Co. For his new role, McDonnell has relocated to Patrón’s international headquarters in Switzerland. McDonnell, who has been with Patrón since 2005, will also continue as chief operating officer.
“In only a few short years, Patrón has quickly expanded into more than 130 countries worldwide,” McDonnell said in a statement. “As our brands continue to gain momentum in international markets, it’s important that we devote all available resources into growing our global business and international market share.”
Utra-premium Patrón Tequila’s growth has slowed in its dominant U.S. market over the past few years amid a tough economic climate, but the brand is rising fast overseas. In 2011, its sales outside the U.S. jumped by more than 60% to 115,000 cases. Portfoliomates Patrón Citronge and Patrón XO Café have also shown promising growth in some key global markets, with XO Café doing particularly well in South Africa.
