•Maui Brewing Co. has announced plans to open a second brewery in Kihei, Maui. The new facility will be located on a five-acre plot of land in the Maui Research and Technology Park. Construction is slated to begin next month and last about a year. The project will allow the company to increase production fivefold and enable an eventual expansion into additional products, including sodas, meads and ciders. Maui Brewing Co. founder Garrett Marrero and his wife, Melanie, operate a 7-barrel brewpub at the group’s existing Kahana location as well as a 25-barrel production brewery and canning facility in Lahaina. The company produced approximately 22,000 barrels of beer in 2012, and plans on increasing that to over 24,000 barrels this year.

•Australia-based importer Vanguard Luxury Brands has added two whiskies from Park City, Utah’s High West Distillery & Saloon to its portfolio. Under the partnership, Vanguard will initially introduce High West’s Rendezvous Rye and Double Rye expressions to the Australian market. Rendezvous Rye is a blend of 16-year-old and 6-year-old rye whiskies, while Double Rye is a mix of two straight rye whiskies, including a 2-year-old and 16-year-old. High West’s extensive range of small-batch whiskies are currently available in 39 states throughout the U.S., as well as in Canada, China and the U.K.
