•Following the recent completion of a new 100-barrel brewhouse, Athens, Georgia-based Terrapin Beer Co. has unveiled a flurry of new products and packaging for 2013. Beginning next month, Terrapin’s year-round Hopsecutioner IPA will be available in 12-pack cartons, in addition to its existing six-pack and keg formats. The brewer is also launching two new year-round offerings, Tree Hugger and RecreationAle. Originally a draft-only specialty release, Tree Hugger will launch this March and April in kegs and six-packs respectively, while RecreationAle, which rolls out in May, will be Terrapin’s first beer to ever be offered in 12-ounce cans. Additionally, Terrapin will add a new brew to its Seasonal Session series, Maggie’s Peach Farmhouse Ale, which features sweet and sour fruit flavors and debuts in May. Currently distributed across nine states, Terrapin is minority-owned by MillerCoors.
•Fast-casual dining chain Smashburger has extended its craft beer-and-burger pairing program to the South Florida market. Through a local partnership with Fort Lauderdale craft brewer Holy Mackerel, Smashburger is offering eight different burgers and chicken sandwiches paired with Holy Mackerel’s Special Golden Ale, Mack In Black and Panic Attack labels. Smashburger’s South Florida locations include outposts in Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Boynton Beach, Pembroke Pines and Kendall. The 200-unit chain has launched previous craft beer-and-burger pairings with Sixpoint Brewery in New York, Goose Island in Illinois, St. Arnold Brewing in Texas and New Belgium Brewing in Colorado.
