•New Ulm, Minnesota-based August Schell Brewing is launching the seventh entry in its Stag Series, Stag #7 American Barleywine. Rolling out February 28, Stag #7 is made with American hops, fermented with an American ale yeast and aged for over three months. The resulting barleywine is 9.5% abv and characterized by a strong malt flavor. Stag #7 joins a variety of limited edition Stag Series brews, including #6 Citra Pils, #5 Czech Dark and #4 Burton Ale, among others. •New craft brewer Los Angeles Ale Works is set to launch its first beer this month. Ale Works will roll out Gams-Bart beer to six bars around Los Angeles, backed by a series of events beginning February 23. A Bavarian-style Roggenbier, Gams-Bart is similar to a Hefeweizen, but uses rye instead of wheat. Founded by friends Kristofor Barnes and John Rockwell, Los Angeles Ale Works is in the process of developing more beers as well as a black rice sake.
