Pernod To Debut New Canadian Whisky, Pike Creek

March 7, 2013

Pernod Ricard USA will release a new small-batch Canadian whisky brand, Pike Creek, beginning next month in select markets including Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Colorado, Texas, Louisiana, Georgia, North Carolina, New York and New Hampshire. Aged in American oak Bourbon barrels and finished in vintage Port barrels, Pike Creek is 80 proof and will retail at $32 a 750-ml.

Pike Creek will enter a Canadian whisky segment that’s been tepid for years but has lately showed signs of improvement, especially at the high end. “Premium craft whisky growth is very strong and accelerating, while ultra-premium Canadian whisky is up 18%,” said Wayne Hartunian, vice president, Whiskies & Cognacs, Pernod Ricard USA, citing Nielsen data for the 52 weeks through December 22.

In addition to Pike Creek, Pernod’s Canadian whisky stable includes Wiser’s, which it began handling in the U.S. last summer (Wiser’s was previously marketed in the U.S. by McCormick Distilling).
