Major Port Houses Declare 2011 A Vintage YearApril 23, 2013
Fladgate Partnership has declared 2011 a vintage Port year for each of its three houses—Taylor Fladgate, Fonseca and Croft. Fellow Port producer Symington (Graham’s, Cockburn’s, Dow’s, Warre’s, Quinta do Vesuvio and Smith Woodhouse) also declared 2011 a vintage year in recent days.
The 2011 declaration follows vintage years in 2009, 2007, 2003 and 2000 for Fladgate’s brands. “Our 2009 declaration showed demand remains strong for new release vintage Ports, and we expect it to grow further as new fine wine markets develop,” said Fladgate managing director Adrian Bridge.
Demand from collectors and investors for large-format bottles has been on the rise lately, Bridge added, and Taylor Fladgate, Fonseca and Croft will each release a limited number of large bottles of the 2011 vintage—which will release later this year—including double magnums and imperials. Fladgate’s brands are handled in the U.S. by Kobrand.
