SABMiller Moves Up Top Exec Change Due To Mackay’s IllnessApril 24, 2013
SABMiller has accelerated the planned promotion of COO Alan Clark to CEO, following the diagnosis of current executive chairman Graham Mackay with a brain tumor. Clark—who was supposed to take over the chief executive role from Mackay in July after a yearlong transitional period—will move into the position immediately. Mackay, meanwhile, had surgery on the tumor on Monday and will now start treatment. He was due to move into a non-executive chairman position once Clark took the helm; SABMiller reports that the board will keep Mackay’s position under review until his treatment is finished. For the time being, John Manser, deputy chairman, will take over the position of acting chairman.
