Craft Brewing And Distilling News for July 19, 2013July 19, 2013
•Narragansett Beer has released Imperial Black Steam, the latest beer to be rolled out under its Private Stock series. It’s available in 22-ounce bombers ($5.99 each) throughout Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut and select New England markets. Billed as an American-style lager, Imperial Black Steam (9% abv) was brewed with Choice malts and San Francisco lager yeast, at a temperature higher than most traditional lagers, giving it the signature flavor and hop bitterness associated with the California Commons style. Imperial Black Steam is the third beer to be released in the Private Stock series.
•Green Flash Brewing Co. has agreed to produce kegged beer for fellow San Diego brewer Alpine Beer Co. The arrangement, which Green Flash co-founder and CEO Mike Hinkley emphasizes is a not-for-profit, “non-contract” situation, will allow Alpine Beer to brew enough product to raise capital and expand operations. Green Flash will brew three of Alpine’s offerings, including Hoppy Birthday, Nelson and Duet, for approximately a year. All hops and other ingredients, as well as keg packaging and distribution management, will be provided and handled by Alpine. With the addition of Alpine’s brews, Green Flash Brewing’s San Diego facility will be operating at a maximum capacity of 100,000 barrels annually. Green Flash, whose flagship offering is its West Coast IPA, is currently planning a second facility in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
