Whisky Advocate Takes On “The State Of Craft Whiskey”August 16, 2013
With excitement around the craft distilling movement crescendoing by the day, Shanken News Daily sister publication Whisky Advocate has devoted its recently released Fall issue to examining the American “Craft Whiskey Nation” from top to bottom.
In a series of features, Whisky Advocate surveys the movement’s most influential producers and the controversial topic of defining “craft whiskey” itself. It shines a spotlight on the techniques America’s most successful craft distilleries are favoring—from types of stills to barrel sizes—and gets down to the business end with a discussion of why craft whiskies are often priced higher than older whiskies from major distillers.
Also included is the story of one of craft whiskey’s up and coming players, High West founder David Perkins, from the man himself, as well as a look at the increasingly popular—and still quite illegal—practice of home-distilling.
