•San Diego’s Karl Strauss Brewing is bringing back its Oktoberfest seasonal, increasing production 20% this year to meet demand. The beer will be available in six-packs and on draft across California while supplies last. Each batch of Oktoberfest (5% abv) is brewed with almost two tons of Vienna, Munich and Carahell malts hand-milled into each batch, which are balanced with imported European Hallertau Perle hops. Last year Karl Strauss added two 240-barrel fermenters and two 120-barrel tanks to its facilities, in order to keep up with its growing reach throughout California. Earlier this year, the company reported that it was on track to surpass 60,000 barrels in 2013.

•Portland, Oregon-based Widmer Brothers Brewing has introduced four new limited release beers as part of its fall lineup. Each of the four new releases—which include Falconer’s IPA, this year’s vintage of Old Embalmer Barleywine, a Pinot Noir barrel-aged version of Old Embalmer called Barrel-Aged Old Embalmer ’13 and Downward Spiral—is available for a limited time and in limited quantities. The release of Falconer’s IPA marks the third time the beer has been available as part of the Rotator IPA Series, while Old Embalmer Barleywine and Barrel-Aged Old Embalmer ’13 are being released as part of the Brother’s Reserve Series. Widmer—part of the Craft Brew Alliance—also produces Pitch Black IPA and Nelson Imperial IPA, as well as a full seasonal lineup, among others.
