•St. Paul, Minnesota-based Summit Brewing is planning to launch canned offerings for the first time next year. The move follows Summit’s recent purchase of a 40,000-square-foot building adjacent to its production facility, where the craft brewer plans to set up offices, a packaging warehouse and install a brand new canning line. Select Summit brands will be available in six-packs of 12-ounce cans, with the lineup slated to be announced by early 2014. The canned formats will feature Summit’s new label design—created by Minneapolis’s Duffy & Partners—which is set to roll out across the brewer’s bottled portfolio this winter. Summit Brewing currently produces 13 year-round, seasonal and limited releases and has a footprint of 17 states.

•Oregon-based Widmer Brothers Brewing, part of the Craft Brew Alliance, is bringing back its Brrr Seasonal Ale. Billed as a hoppy Northwest-style red ale, Brrr is 7.2% abv and is made with Pale, Caramel, Carapils and Dark Chocolate malts, along with Cascade and Simcoe hops. It will be available on draught and in six-, 12- and 24-pack formats across the country until January. Brrr will also be part of Widmer Brothers’ Best variety packs during that time.
