Craft Brewing and Distilling News for October 25, 2013October 25, 2013
•St. Paul, Minnesota-based Summit Brewing is planning to launch canned offerings for the first time next year. The move follows Summit’s recent purchase of a 40,000-square-foot building adjacent to its production facility, where the craft brewer plans to set up offices, a packaging warehouse and install a brand new canning line. Select Summit brands will be available in six-packs of 12-ounce cans, with the lineup slated to be announced by early 2014. The canned formats will feature Summit’s new label design—created by Minneapolis’s Duffy & Partners—which is set to roll out across the brewer’s bottled portfolio this winter. Summit Brewing currently produces 13 year-round, seasonal and limited releases and has a footprint of 17 states.
•Oregon-based Widmer Brothers Brewing, part of the Craft Brew Alliance, is bringing back its Brrr Seasonal Ale. Billed as a hoppy Northwest-style red ale, Brrr is 7.2% abv and is made with Pale, Caramel, Carapils and Dark Chocolate malts, along with Cascade and Simcoe hops. It will be available on draught and in six-, 12- and 24-pack formats across the country until January. Brrr will also be part of Widmer Brothers’ Best variety packs during that time.Subscribe to Shanken News Daily’s Email Newsletter, delivered to your inbox each morning.
