Wine Spectator’s Full Top 100 List To Be Unveiled This Morning, As Rioja’s Cune Imperial Is Named Wine Of The YearNovember 18, 2013
This morning at 11 o’clock, Wine Spectator will release the full list of its Top 100 Wines of 2013 on its web site, WineSpectator.com. While every name on the list can lay claim to being an elite wine, only one can be called Wine Spectator’s 2013 Wine of the Year. As announced by Wine Spectator late last week, Cune Rioja Imperial Gran Reserva 2004 has earned that distinction.
Retailing at $63 a bottle, Cune Rioja Imperial Gran Reserva 2004 received a 95-point score from Wine Spectator. Tom Matthews, Wine Spectator’s executive editor, called the wine “firm and a bit austere,” adding that it shows depth and drive, with chewy tannins supporting plum, tobacco, licorice and mineral flavors. The structure is solid but the wine remains fresh. Maturing now, this has a long life ahead.”
