Hakkasan Completes Deal To Buy Enlightened Hospitality Group

Global restaurant and nightlife group Hakkasan Ltd. has acquired a controlling stake in Enlightened Hospitality Group (EHGRP), a San Diego-based hospitality development company, as well as the Stingaree nightclub in San Diego. Hakkasan now becomes the majority stakeholder for all EHGRP brands including Searsucker (San Diego, Del Mar and Austin) and Herringbone (San Diego and Los Angeles). Those operations will be managed in a strategic partnership with the original development team, which retains minority ownership.

Founded in 2001, Hakkasan is noteworthy for offering traditional Cantonese cuisine executed with modern flair. The group has won Michelin stars for its New York restaurant and both of its London locations. It also has restaurants in Miami, Abu Dhabi, Mumbai, Dubai, Doha, San Francisco, Las Vegas and Beverly Hills, with an offering in Shanghai to open in early 2014.

Recently, the company made its first foray into the nightlife business with the opening of its 60,000-square-foot nightclub, Hakkasan Las Vegas at MGM Grand Hotel & Casino, which debuted in April. Hakkasan Ltd. has also just announced plans to open its first luxury resort on Dubai’s Palm Jumeirah, which is scheduled to begin construction in 2014.

San Diego-based Enlightened Hospitality Group is a restaurant and nightlife development group founded in 2010 by James Brennan and executive chef Brian Malarkey. In addition to its Searsucker and Herringbone units, the group also manages and operates Stingaree, the nightlife location in San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter, as well Campine, A Culinary + Cocktail Conspiracy, a catering and event production company.
