February 12, 2014

•Portland, Oregon’s Widmer Brothers Brewing, part of Craft Brew Alliance, will replace its Rotator IPA Series with Upheaval IPA, a new Northwest-style IPA, as a year-round offering available nationally. The new IPA is brewed with six hop varieties and 2 pounds of hops per barrel—more than all other Widmer brews—resulting in a bold, balanced beer with hop aromas. Brewed with 40% wheat and unfiltered, Upheaval IPA comes in at 7% abv. The new addition is launching across the country in February on draught, in six- and 12-packs and in 22-ounce bottles.

•Upstate New York-based Ithaca Beer Co. is launching a new Belgian beer variety pack into select Northeast markets this month. Limited to just 10,000 packs, Ithaca Beer’s Box of Belgians will feature four ales, including the Hopbloem India Pale Ale, Fleur de Belgique India Pale Ale, Obscurite Belgian-style Stout and Laissez Faire Belgian-style Tripel Ale labels. In addition to the boxed format, all four beers will make limited draft appearances throughout the Northeast and Ohio. Box of Belgians marks the second entry in Ithaca Beer’s special variety pack series, following the launch of Box of Hops in October.
