Texas Wine Bar Chain Will Move Into Three New Markets

Max’s Wine Dive, a chain of six Texas restaurants, is expanding beyond the Lone Star state with plans to open restaurants next month in Chicago and Atlanta, followed by a Denver unit in July. Jerry Lasco, owner of the Houston-based company, which was founded in 2006, says the new locations will feature a menu that pairs Southern dishes with wine lists concentrated under $100. As the name implies, the Wine Dive’s concept is to bring a casual element to wine and food pairing. But the venue’s wine lists do feature upscale labels like the 2006 Dom Perignon ($180) and 2011 Caymus Special Selection Cabernet Sauvignon ($180).

Lasco also owns the four-unit Tasting Room chain of wine bars in Houston, a concept that may also be expanded. He noted that one Tasting Room venue in Houston sold more than 1 million glasses of wine last year.
