Teeling Whiskey Co. Breaks Ground On Dublin Distillery

August 11, 2014

The Teeling Whiskey Co. has begun construction on its €10 million ($14m) distillery, located in Dublin’s Newmarket in The Liberties. The new facility, which will have an annual capacity of 500,000 liters, is slated to receive its distilling equipment in October and be operational by the end of the year.

According to the company, the Dublin project marks the first new distillery in the city in over 125 years, as well as the Teeling family’s return to its “ancestral roots” in the business. Teeling Whiskey currently sources its whiskey from the Cooley Distillery, which the Teeling family sold to Beam Inc. for $95 million in 2011, and finishes it at its own maturation facility.

Founded by Jack Teeling in 2012, The Teeling Whiskey Co. launched its first entry—an eponymous blended Irish whiskey finished in Flor de Caña rum casks—in the U.S. earlier this year, via Infinium Spirits. The flagship 46%-abv whiskey, which is priced at around $40 a bottle, is set to be joined by a range of higher-end offerings, including a single-grain corn whiskey matured in Cabernet Sauvignon casks expected to roll out stateside next year, among others.
