New Zealand Wine Exports To The U.S. Continue Double-Digit Climb

August 22, 2014

New Zealand wine exports rose 10% by volume to nearly 190 million liters and saw value climb 10% to NZ$1.33 billion ($1.12b) in the 12 months through June, according to the New Zealand Winegrowers trade group. The U.S., New Zealand’s second-largest wine export market after Australia, contributed to the growth with a sales rise of 16% to NZ$328 million ($275.2m) on a volume increase of 13%, to the equivalent of 5.4 million cases.

Other highlights included the U.K., Germany and the Netherlands, where New Zealand wine exports rose 11%, 52% and 25%, respectively, helping to offset declines of 8% in China and 18% in Hong Kong. Sauvignon Blanc continued to account for the bulk of total New Zealand wine shipments, with a share of nearly 86%.
