Irish Independent Walsh Whiskey Investing In 500,000-Case Distillery

September 15, 2014

Independent Irish whiskey producer Walsh Whiskey has begun construction on a new €25 million ($32.3m) production site in County Carlow, Ireland. The development, located on an 18th century estate comprising 40 acres, will include a distillery with an annual capacity of 500,000 cases, as well as two maturation houses with capacity for 60,000 barrels. Set to open by early 2016, the Walsh Whiskey Distillery will produce pot, grain and malt Irish whiskies.

Founded in 1999 by Bernard and Rosemary Walsh, Walsh Whiskey produces a range of premium Irish whiskies, including The Irishman and Writer’s Tears labels. In 2012, Palm Bay International began importing The Irishman brand in the U.S., whose line includes Single Malt, 12-year-old Single Malt, Cask Strength, Founder’s Reserve and Superior Irish Cream among others.
