July 23, 2015

•Virginia’s Hardywood Park Craft Brewery is planning a new brewery campus on a 24-acre plot in Goochland County. The 60,000-square-foot facility, to be built in phases with the first phase’s completion expected by spring 2017, will house brewing and packaging operations, as well as a taproom and beer garden, agricultural fields and entertainment areas. Hardywood says it’s grown 100% a year since opening in 2011 and expects to brew 15,000 barrels this year. With a new 60-barrel brewhouse and packaging equipment, its capacity will increase to more than 40,000 barrels, allowing for expanded distribution outside Virginia. The company’s current Richmond headquarters will continue to operate as a taproom and events space while crafting experimental brews.

•Atlanta Brewing Company, producer of the Red Brick and Laughing Skull craft beer brands, has named Garett Lockhart as president, effective immediately. Lockhart, who was previously the company’s brewmaster, takes over for Bob Budd, who has served as president since 2005 and will remain on Atlanta Brewing’s board. Lockhart joined Atlanta Brewing in 2010. The company is best known for the Red Brick brand, which includes a number of year-round and seasonal offerings, such as its Brick Mason series.
