Beam Suntory Boosted By Bourbon Growth In Its First Half

August 11, 2015

Beam Suntory posted a North American sales increase in its first half ended in June, as double-digit gains across its Bourbon portfolio—including Maker’s Mark, Knob Creek and Basil Hayden’s—propelled growth. A focus on premiumization across the brand stable led to a favorable price mix in North America, the company said. In the 52 weeks through July 12, nearly all of Beam Suntory’s key brands posted value progress well ahead of their volume growth in IRI channels. Jim Beam Bourbon was flat by volume but up 3% by value during that period, while Sauza (+3% by volume and 6% by value) and Maker’s Mark (+6% by volume and +10% by value) showed similar dynamics. Overall, Suntory Holding’s beverage alcohol sales rose 32% to ¥478 billion ($3.8b) in the first half.
