Whiskies Lead Impact’s Spirits Brand “Hot Prospects” List

September 8, 2015

Impact’s new roster of spirits “Hot Prospects” offers further evidence of the whisk(e)y boom. Whiskies comprise half of the 26 brands on the list—including Bourbon, Canadian, Irish, Scotch and American brands, as well as five flavored whiskies.

In total, there were 18 newcomers to the Hot Prospect spirits list this year. In addition to whisk(e)y, the vodka category placed three brands, along with four rums, three Tequilas, two liqueurs and one Cognac.

To qualify as Hot Prospects, spirits brands must have posted 15% depletions growth in the previous year while also showing consistent growth in the preceding two years. Volumes must reach at least 50,000 cases but not exceed 200,000 cases. New products can qualify as Hot Prospects if they pass the 50,000-case mark in their first year.

Nine of the 26 Hot Prospect spirits brands posted volumes above 100,000 cases in 2014: Heaven Hill’s Evan Williams Flavored Reserves; Beam Suntory’s Sauza Blue; William Grant & Sons’ Tullamore Dew; Pernod Ricard’s Avión and Wiser’s; Diageo’s Crown Royal Regal Apple; Western Spirits’ Bird Dog; Sazerac’s Buffalo Trace; and E.&J. Gallo’s Shellback.

The full list of Impact’s Hot Prospect spirits brands, as well as complete data and analysis, appear in the September 1&15 issue of Impact.
