•Total Wine & More is set to open its first Bay Area store on February 11, in Fremont, about four miles away from a BevMo outlet. The Fremont site is expected to be joined later this year by another location in Mountain View. Previously, Total Wine’s closest stores to the Bay Area were its four Sacramento locations.
•E-card company Someecards has partnered with 1026 Beverage Company to release a new Millennial-geared wine brand, SomeWine, including a Chardonnay, red blend and Pinot Noir (all $12.99). The labels feature drawings and sayings in Someecards’ style and will rotate periodically. SomeWine is currently available in Ohio, with expansion to Indiana, California, Texas, Georgia, Florida, Massachusetts and Arizona expected in the coming weeks. Some key grocery store accounts include HEB, Sprouts and Giant Eagle.
•A. Hardy USA has formed an alliance with Scotland’s Loch Lomond distillery for U.S. distribution of its Scotch whisky lineup. Distribution of Loch Lomond’s whiskies to select U.S. markets is set to begin in March. The independent Scottish distiller and blender owns one of six grain distilleries in Scotland, in addition to the Glen Scotia distillery in Campbeltown and Loch Lomond distillery located near the Scottish Highlands.
•Wine industry veteran Richard Shiekman passed away January 30 from complications from cancer. Shiekman served in his family’s New Jersey-based import business, Parliament Wine Co., for more than 25 years, leading sales efforts on a host of high-end French and Italian wines, as well as selected estates from Napa and Sonoma, before branching out to other executive roles with Admiral Wine Co. and Drinks Americas.Subscribe to Shanken News Daily’s Email Newsletter, delivered to your inbox each morning.
