•Bushmills Irish whiskey has extended its range with Bushmills Red Bush. A blend of triple-distilled Irish single malt and fine Irish grain whiskey, Red Bush is matured in first-fill Bourbon casks and features a relatively sweeter taste profile. The 40%-abv offering, which is retail priced at around $23 a 750-ml., joins the brand’s existing Original, Black Bush, Single Malt 10-year-old, Single Malt 16-year-old and Single Malt 21-year-old expressions. Casa Cuervo acquired Bushmills from Diageo in late 2014. According to Impact Databank, Bushmills sells more than 200,000 cases in the U.S. market.
•Maison Ferrand has acquired the historic West Indies Rum Distillery in Barbados for an undisclosed sum, marking its first distillery acquisition outside France. Ferrand said the move will bolster production for its Plantation rum brand. In addition to producing Plantation, West Indies Rum Distillery will continue to honor production contracts with other suppliers following the acquisition. Maison Ferrand’s other brands include Pierre Ferrand Cognac, Citadelle gin, Mathilde liqueurs and Daron Calvados.
•Beam Suntory is introducing a limited-edition 16-year-old single malt Irish whiskey under its Tyrconnell brand. Retailing at $100 a 750-ml., the Tyrconnell 16-year-old was matured in American oak ex-Bourbon barrels. The Tyrconnell is produced by Beam Suntory’s Cooley Distillery in County Louth. Beam Suntory’s other Irish whiskey offerings include Kilbeggan blended Irish whiskey and the Connemara peated single malt.
•The Winebow Group has promoted Monique Huston to the newly created position of national spirits director. Huston, who was previously director of spirits, Midwest, will be based in Chicago and report to Chris Mitchell, senior vice president of portfolio management.
