Exclusive: Clerkin Names New CEO At Moët Hennessy USA

May 15, 2017

Moët Hennessy North America president and CEO Jim Clerkin has tapped company veteran Jo Thornton to become CEO of Moët Hennessy USA, effective July 1.

Thornton, who’s been with Moët Hennessy since 1993, has been serving as managing director of Moët Hennessy U.K. since 2010. In his new role, he’ll be reporting directly to Clerkin.

With the appointment, Thornton will oversee the luxury drinks giant’s U.S. sales and marketing functions. David Volpe, executive vice president, sales, and Rodney Williams, chief marketing officer and executive vice president, brands, will report to Thornton.

Moët Hennessy North America’s Mexico and Canada teams will continue to report directly to Clerkin. Also, U.S. corporate functions currently reporting directly to Clerkin will continue to do so.

The move marks a return to the U.S. market for Thornton, who previously worked with Clerkin in the U.S. sales division. He served as vice president for the Northeast region starting in 2006, and then became the region’s senior vice president from 2008-2010.

“I’m very pleased that Jo has agreed to return to the U.S. and help support the momentum that my current team, along with our wholesale network, has created,” said Clerkin in a statement.
