•Palm Bay International has added Australian Vintage Ltd.’s Tempus Two wines to its import portfolio. Tempus Two includes a Varietal Series ($14.99 a 750-ml.) and a Copper Series ($19.99), which are both currently rolling out across the U.S. Sourced from southern Australia, the Varietal Series includes a Sauvignon Blanc and a Shiraz. The higher-end Copper Series features a Chardonnay, a Shiraz and a red blend from Hunter Valley, Langhorne Creek and Barossa Valley, respectively.

•Diageo has filed suit against Deutsch Family Wine & Spirits over the redesign of Deutsch’s Redemption whiskey brand. Diageo claims Redemption’s new packaging is too similar to that of Diageo’s Bulleit whiskey, and has claimed trademark infringement. Earlier this year, Diageo settled a similar suit with Sazerac over the Dr. McGillicuddy’s brand, which it also claimed infringed on Bulleit’s trademark.

•The owners of one of the Finger Lakes wine region’s top wineries are buying a respected neighbor. Wine Spectator has learned that Fred Merwarth and Oskar Bynke of Hermann J. Wiemer have purchased Standing Stone Vineyards from Martha and Tom Macinski. The deal includes 50 acres of vines and a winery that currently produces 6,000 cases per year. Neither side disclosed a purchase price. The plan is for the Macinskis to stay at Standing Stone for three years, running and managing the estate while the Wiemer team transitions in. Standing Stone will remain a separate entity and brand going forward. Wine Spectator has the full story.

•Wynwood, Florida-based John Drew Brands has announced its leadership team. Senior appointments include chairman and CEO Jonathan Drew (who will continue as president of cigar company Drew Estate), president Nancy Berkowitz, national sales manager Steve Chernoff and national director of brand development Frank Moreno. Berkowitz has more than 35 years of experience in the beverage alcohol industry, including senior positions with Gallo, United Liquors and others. John Drew Brands plans to launch spirits labels Dove Tale Rum, Brixton Mash Destroyer and John Drew Rye in August.
