Tequilas, Whiskies Lead Impact’s “Hot Prospect” Spirits List

September 5, 2017

With Tequila and American whiskey continuing to surge in the U.S. market, the two categories figure heavily in this year’s Impact Hot Prospects spirits roster. In all, 35 spirits brands qualified as Hot Prospects on this year’s list, up from 28 brands last year. Of those 35 winners, 11 were Tequila brands and 12 were whiskies, and all but one of those whiskies was from North America.

While Tequila and whisk(e)y dominate the list, six vodkas, two rums, one Cognac, one flavored brandy, one gin and one liqueur brand are also among the award winners.

To qualify as Hot Prospects, spirits must have posted 15% depletions growth in the previous year while also showing consistent growth in the preceding two years. Volumes must be between 50,000 and 200,000 cases. New products qualify as Hot Prospects if they exceed 50,000 cases in their first year.

Twelve of the 35 Hot Prospect spirits brands posted volumes above 100,000 cases in 2016: Pernod Ricard’s Olmeca Altos, Sazerac’s Buffalo Trace, Phillips Distilling’s Prairie Organic, Proximo Spirits’ Jose Cuervo Tradicional, Beam Suntory’s Basil Hayden’s, Brown-Forman’s Old Forester 86 Proof, Heaven Hill’s Lunazul, Infinium Spirits’ Corralejo, LiDestri Spirits’ Recipe 21, Diageo’s Casamigos and William Grant & Sons’ Flor de Caña and Reyka.

The full list of Hot Prospect spirits brands, as well as complete data and analysis, appear in the September 1&15 issue of Impact.
