Bacardi Pledges $3 Million To Disaster Relief After Hurricane Maria Devastates Puerto Rico

September 22, 2017

Bacardi Ltd will donate $3 million to disaster relief efforts related to Hurricanes Irma and Maria—which devastated parts of the Caribbean, including Puerto Rico, seat of Bacardi’s rum distillery—as well as the recent Mexico City earthquake. Bacardi has pledged $2 million to help rebuild Puerto Rico and provide for the displaced. The remaining $1 million will go toward rebuilding and relief efforts in Florida, Mexico, the Bahamas and other Caribbean Islands.

Bacardi is in the process of contacting Puerto Rico-based workers, but communications remain difficult. As of this morning, all employees that Bacardi has managed to reach are safe. Meanwhile, all of Bacardi’s Mexico-based employees are safe and accounted for.

Chairman Facundo Bacardi said, “The Bacardi family, company and our employees are deeply saddened by the devastation and horrific loss caused by the recent hurricanes and earthquakes. We hope these donations will help alleviate some of the stress and pain people are experiencing while addressing some of their most basic needs.”—Shane English
