News Alert: Southern Glazer’s Enters Cannabis Distribution Market In Canada

May 17, 2018

Southern Glazer’s is set to enter the cannabis distribution market in Canada, as the country prepares to begin allowing legal cannabis sales later this year.

Under a new deal, Southern Glazer’s subsidiary Great North Distributors will become the exclusive distributor for cannabis producer Aphria throughout Canada. “With this agreement, Aphria has established an unparalleled sales network, and will hit the ground running from the very first day of legal adult-use sales,” said Jakob Ripshtein, Chief Commercial Officer of Aphria. Prior to joining Aphria in April, Ripshtein was chief financial officer of Diageo North America.

Great North Distributors plans to establish a dedicated cannabis sales team that will be “responsible for acting as the selling agent of Aphria’s broad portfolio of adult-use cannabis brands and products to provincial retailers throughout Canada, from the most populated cities to the most remote locations,” Southern Glazer’s noted, adding that the company intends to “apply their industry-leading data analytics capabilities to the new cannabis industry.”
