•Patrón has launched Gran Patrón Smoky, a new Tequila made using a traditional smoking technique. Crafted with 100% Blue Weber agave that’s roasted with mesquite in underground stone pits at Patrón Hacienda for nearly a week, Gran Patrón Smoky is bottled at 101 proof and retail priced at $199 a 750-ml. The new expression is currently launching in limited supply across 13 U.S. markets, with wider distribution set to follow in 2019. Patrón Spirits was fully acquired by drinks giant Bacardi in May, in a transaction valuing the company at around $5.1 billion.

•Constellation is extending Meiomi with a new methode champenoise sparkling wine. Retailing at $27 a 750-ml., the newcomer is a blend of 60% Chardonnay and 40% Pinot Noir sourced from California’s North Coast. It’s rolling out nationwide this month. Meiomi was up 11% to 1.2 million cases last year, according to Impact Databank.

•Moët Hennessy is debuting a new “Worlds of Greatness” campaign, including ads directed by Alien and Blade Runner director Ridley Scott. The partnership marks Scott’s first commercial in 15 years. The Worlds of Greatness campaign, which also includes print ads, is centered on the tasting notes for Hennessy XO, as described by the brand’s Comité de Dégustation tasting panel. Each of the seven ads in the series seeks to illustrate a different element of the Hennessy XO taste profile. Hennessy was up 7.4% to 3.96 million cases in the U.S. last year, according to Impact Databank.

•Beam Suntory is on the hunt for a new chief marketing officer, as Rebecca Messina is departing to head up marketing for Uber. Messina joined Beam Suntory from Coca-Cola in March of 2016, and helped drive solid growth across the portfolio during her tenure. The third-largest spirits marketer in the U.S. by volume, Beam Suntory was up 1.5% to 22.2 million cases overall last year, reversing a 1.8% slide in 2016.

•Wilson Daniels has added Burgundian winery Domaine du Roc des Boutires to its portfolio. Owned and operated by Edouard Parinet of Château du Moulin-à-Vent—also imported by Wilson Daniels—Domaine du Roc des Boutires specializes in 100% Chardonnay sourced from vines aged 35 years and older. All three wines in the range, including Pouilly-Fuissé, En Bertilionne, and Aux Bouthière, are aged for 12 months on the lees, first in French oak barrels before being finished in stainless steel. Wilson Daniels also imports Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Domaine Laroche, and Domaine Leflaive from Burgundy.
