Vintage Wine Estates Acquires California’s Qupé

Santa Rosa-based Vintage Wine Estates has purchased the Qupé wine brand for an undisclosed sum. Founded by Bob Lindquist in 1982, Qupé is known for producing cool-climate Rhône varietals from California’s Central Coast, including Syrah, Grenache, Roussanne, and Marsanne. Annual production is around 30,000 cases.

The purchase includes the brand and inventory, and Lindquist will stay on as consulting winemaker. Qupé was previously owned by Terroir Selections, which acquired it in 2013. V2 Wine Imports, jointly held between Delicato Family Vineyards and Dan and Katy Leese, took on sales and marketing for the brand as part of its partnership with Terroir in April.

Qupé joins a Vintage Wine Estates portfolio that has expanded markedly in recent years and now accounts for roughly 2 million cases. The company has been on an acquisition spree over the past several years, adding Washington’s Tamarack Cellars, Oregon’s Firesteed Vineyards, and California’s Layer Cake, Cherry Pie, If You See Kay, Cameron Hughes, B.R. Cohn, Swanson Vineyards, and Delectus to its portfolio.—Daniel Marsteller
