Exclusive: Beam Suntory Names Jessica Spence To Lead Global Marketing

June 25, 2019

Beam Suntory has named Carlsberg veteran Jessica Spence as president of brands, a newly created role within the company. As president of brands, Spence will oversee global strategy and premiumization across all categories, reporting to CEO Albert Baladi. She’ll join Beam Suntory in October.

Spence’s new post will replace the role of CMO at Beam Suntory (last held by Rebecca Messina, who departed in the fall of 2018), although Spence will have a wider purview. According to the company, the move will create more connections among its long-term supply management, production, and marketing departments.

“We felt the need to create horizontal leadership over the brands to complement the vertical leadership we have within brands,” Baladi told SND. “We wanted to create more of a matrix organization where the president of brands would now have joint responsibility for the P&L (profits and losses) of the brands, in partnership with our commercial leaders.”

Spence comes to Beam Suntory from Carlsberg Group, where she’s been serving as executive vice president and chief commercial officer. She brings over a decade of experience in the beverage alcohol world to her new role, having also served as marketing director and vice president commercial in Asia for Carlsberg, and in senior marketing positions in Eastern Europe for SABMiller.—Shane English
