Top Buffalo Area Retailer Prime Wine & Spirits Moving To New, Expanded Location

April 29, 2011

Prime Wine & Spirits, owned by 1993 Market Watch Retailer of the Year Burt Notarius, is leaving its longtime home in Kenmore, New York and moving to a larger space 10 minutes away. Notarius is developing a 43,000-square-foot store on the site of a former auto dealership in Amherst, New York. The $5 million project is expected to have 20% more retail space, which will be used to expand Prime’s wine education classes. The new space will put Prime closer to traffic on the busy Niagara Falls Boulevard shopping corridor, which includes a mall and several retail shopping plazas. According to Buffalo Business First, the current complex—which includes the existing liquor store and adjacent gourmet shop-has been listed with local realtors for $3.25 million. The deal requires approval from the New York State Liquor Authority and the town board. Pending approvals, construction could begin as early as this summer, with completion by early 2012.
