Heineken Veteran Andy Thomas Joins Craft Brewers Alliance
June 1, 2011Former Heineken USA president and CEO Andy Thomas has joined Craft Brewers Alliance (CBA) as president of commercial operations, reporting directly to CBA ceo Terry Michaelson. Thomas, who had been an advisor to CBA for the past year and a half, also recently served as an independent marketing and strategy consultant and senior adviser to The Monitor Group. Prior to that, he spent 12 years at Heineken, rising to the brewer’s top executive position in the U.S. from 2005 to 2007.
Portland, Oregon-based CBA markets the Kona, Redhook and Widmer Brothers craft beer brands (it sold its 42% stake in Chicago’s Goose Island to ABI for $16.3 million in March). In the first quarter of this year, CBA’s recently acquired Kona brand helped boost revenue (up 18% to $32.3 million) and volume (up 15% to 147,900 barrels/173,500 hectoliters) markedly. With the addition of Thomas, the company could look to further broaden its brand portfolio. “Andy will further accelerate CBA’s growth strategy of building our brands through more quality craft beer offerings and new beer experiences for our consumers,” said Michaelson.
