Deutsch Strikes Deal With Napa’s Joseph Carr, Bolstering California Lineup

June 30, 2011

W.J. Deutsch & Sons, Ltd. has strengthened its California wine portfolio with an exclusive U.S. marketing and sales agreement to handle Napa Valley’s Joseph Carr and Josh Cellars brands. The deal brings five new offerings to the Deutsch lineup: Joseph Carr Napa Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Merlot and Sonoma Coast Chardonnay; and Josh Cellars North Coast Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay. All are priced in the premium-plus range, retailing for an average of more than $15 a 750-ml.

The agreement is effective July 1, with transitions occurring over the next two months depending on the market. White Plains, New York-based Deutsch expects to sell a combined 60,000 cases of Joseph Carr and Josh Cellars over the next year.

Deutsch, best known for an import portfolio that includes market leader Yellow Tail and France’s Georges Duboeuf, recently has made a concerted effort on the domestic side. Earlier this year, the company became the exclusive sales and marketing agent for three brands from California’s Vintage Wine Estates: Girard Winery, Sonoma Coast Vineyards and Windsor Sonoma Winery. Deutsch also handles Kunde Family Estate, in which Vintage Wine Estates took a minority stake last year.
