Spirits Up Nearly 3 Percent, Wine Nearly 4 Percent In Latest Nielsen Data

Spirits and table wine sales enjoyed solid off-premise growth both in recent weeks and over the past year, according to Nielsen. Spirits sales volume in food, drug and liquor stores (as well as other select channels) were up 2.9% and 2.8% for the respective 4-week and 13-week periods ending June 25th. These trends were roughly parallel with growth over the past year, as spirits sales for the 52-week period ending June 25th were up 3%, to 57.2 million cases. The data represent roughly 30% of the total U.S. spirits market. In table wine, volume rose by 3.9% and 3.5% in the respective 4-week and 13-week periods ending June 25th. Again, those figures were closely in line with the full-year period, as sales volume for the 52 weeks ending June 25th increased by 3.4% to 127.3 million cases, representing roughly 40% of the total U.S. table wine market.
