Italian Wine Imports Expanding Rapidly In 2011

August 25, 2011

Italian wine exports to the U.S. market jumped by roughly 23% in both volume and value during the first five months of 2011, according to the Italian Wine & Food Institute, which adds that Italian wine accounted for 31.3% of U.S. imported wine market volume during that period. Just a few years ago, Australia appeared as though it would overtake Italy as the leader of the U.S. imported wine market. However, as Australian wine sales have sagged while Italian wine sales continue their impressive expansion, the Italian category may well be some 50% larger than the Australian category in the U.S. by year-end.
