Diageo Re-Ups Open State Deals With Southern Wine & Spirits
October 18, 2011After naming Southern Wine & Spirits its exclusive broker for spirits across the 18 U.S. control states earlier this year, Diageo has now renewed its agreements with the market’s largest wine and spirits wholesaler in a host of open states. Under a deal announced today, Southern will continue as Diageo’s exclusive distributor for both wine and spirits in California, Florida, Hawaii, Kentucky, Indiana and Alaska, and will continue to distribute Diageo’s wine brands in Oregon and Washington.
Diageo says the new deals with Southern in both open and control states, “provide for a more efficient structure with new national leadership across all of Southern’s in-state selling divisions that are dedicated to Diageo brands.” (Southern recently appointed Gerry Rivero as evp-general manager of its corporate Coastal-Pacific Wine & Spirits group, leading the Diageo and Moët Hennessy portfolios nationally for Southern.) In addition, Southern’s Diageo selling divisions have beefed up investment in the on-premise, multicultural and innovation areas that have been earmarked as priorities to enable future growth, the companies said.
