Beam’s New Red Stag Flavors Hit The Market

February 23, 2012

As reported by Shanken News Daily back in October, Beam Inc. is now rolling out two new line extensions to its Red Stag flavored Bourbon whiskey franchise. The two extensions—Red Stag Honey Tea and Red Stag Spiced—both are at 80-proof and retail at $17.99 a 750-ml. bottle, in line with the original black cherry-flavored variant. Red Stag Honey Tea is infused with the flavor of sweet honey and tea, while Red Stag Spiced is flavored with cinnamon and other spices. According to Beam, all three Red Stag offerings aim to provide “a mixable, approachable spin” on Bourbon.

Red Stag has been a big success since its 2009 launch, reaching 300,000 cases last year on nearly 60% growth, according to Impact Databank. The brand has kick-started the U.S. market’s flavored whiskey trend, which also includes Heaven Hill’s Evan Williams Honey Reserve and Cherry Reserve extensions ($14.99). Brown Forman’s Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey ($22), and Skyy’s Wild Turkey American Honey ($19.99) are technically classified as liqueurs but appeal to the same flavored Bourbon consumer.
