EXCLUSIVE: Terlato To Enter China Via New Deal

March 27, 2012

Terlato Wines International (TWI) has partnered with Shanghai-based distributor East Meets West Fine Wines to bring its premium wine portfolio to mainland China. East Meets West will initially focus on select brands from TWI’s California range—including Chimney Rock, Jack Nicklaus, Iconoclast, Seven Daughters and Greystone Cellars—as well as the group’s Wairau River label from Marlborough, New Zealand. Distribution will center primarily on key wine-consuming cities such as Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen, Hangzhou, Suzhou, Tianjin and Guangzhou.

The move into China follows TWI’s recent partnerships with wholesaler Matthew Clark in the U.K. and Kohda Winehouse in Japan—reflecting the company’s plan to develop global distribution of its core brands. Across its business, Terlato Wine Group is expecting a volume rise of 13%–14% in its fiscal year ending March 31. Speaking to Shanken News Daily earlier this month, company president and CEO Bill Terlato said, “We expect to announce several new partnerships in the next 60 days at the high end of the business, where we clearly aim to be.”
