Exclusive: Terlato Adds Kracher Wines From Austria

April 5, 2012

Terlato Wines International (TWI) has partnered with Austria’s Kracher family to bring their full range of Kracher sweet wines to the U.S., ranging from $24 to $120 a 375-ml. bottle. TWI will import and market the brand’s Auslese, Beerenauslese and Trockenbeernauslese non-vintage Cuveé, as well as limited quantities of Kracher’s vintage-dated collector’s series, which will be offered to U.S. sommeliers and fine wine retailers. Additionally, TWI will market two dry wines created in partnership with Aldo Sohm, the wine director for New York restaurant Le Bernardin, and Gerhard Kracher, head of the Kracher estate. Sourced from 40-year-old Grüner vines, the dry wine series includes the Sohm & Kracher Grüner Veltliner and the Sohm & Kracher Grüner Veltliner Single Vineyard.

Kracher is the first Austrian offering for TWI, joining the group’s global portfolio of more than 40 brands. “The addition of Kracher to our portfolio gives us the reference point for Austrian wines, strengthening our leadership position in luxury wines,” says TWI president and CEO Bill Terlato. “Today’s luxury wine consumers are looking to discover new wines, new producers, new regions, new varietals and new styles.”
