Wine Nation Store Opens in Connecticut

April 23, 2012

Tom Trone’s second Wine Nation liquor store has opened in Norwalk, Connecticut. The store, reportedly some 30,000 square feet in size, is just two miles from Stew Leonard’s Wines’ Norwalk location. According to an employee, the Wine Nation store is currently operating under a soft opening, with just 2,000 items in stock. The store should be fully operational in the next few weeks, and like its sister store in Massachusetts, will stock some 7,000 wines.

The first Wine Nation store opened in Millbury, Massachusetts in 2010, claiming to be the largest wine shop in the state. The central Massachusetts store sells wine, beer, distilled spirits, an extensive selection of gourmet foods, gifts and accessories. Complimentary tastings are held every weekend.

Trone is brother to David and Robert Trone, owners of the 79-unit, multi-state Total Wine & More chain. His entry into Connecticut comes at a time when lawmakers have been considering repealing the state’s Sunday blue law relating to spirits. Last week, the General Assembly’s Finance Committee voted to approve Sunday sales in Connecticut.
