Terlato Partners With Kim And Erica Crawford On Upscale New Zealand Wine Venture

May 21, 2012

Terlato Wines has formed a partnership with one of New Zealand’s premier vintners to handle a new high-end brand in the U.S. market. Earlier today, Terlato told Shanken News Daily that it has entered into a long-term exclusive pact with Loveblock Vintners, a New Zealand wine company newly created by Kim and Erica Crawford, best known as the founders of Kim Crawford, the U.S. market’s top-selling New Zealand wine brand.

While the Kim Crawford brand (acquired by Vincor in 2003 and subsequently by Constellation Brands in 2006) generally retails for $13-$15 a 750-ml., Loveblock’s wines are higher up the pricing ladder—in part because of an adherence to biodynamic and organic farming. Loveblock’s two initial offerings—a 2011 Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc and a 2011 Central Otago Pinot Noir—retail for $25 and $35, respectively. Terlato plans to introduce additional wines in the near future, including a Pinot Gris, among others. Lake Bluff, Illinois-based Terlato expects to sell roughly 10,000 cases of Loveblock wines in 2012.
