After First Dallas Opening, Total Wine Exploring Fort Worth, San Antonio Locations

May 24, 2012

With its first Texas store opening today in Dallas, Total Wine & More is eyeing further Lone Star State expansion. Total Wine president and co-owner David Trone told the Dallas Business Journal the company is “working on a significant number of sites all over the Fort Worth-Dallas area,” with a Fort Worth location expected to be open in the fall. The retailer is also exploring entry into other Texas metro markets like San Antonio.

Total Wine’s new Dallas location, situated less than half a mile from a Spec’s Wine, Spirits & Finer Foods—a key competitor—is part of its “next generation” of stores, with customized local and regional selections in inventory, expert-trained employees, a climate-controlled fine wine cellar, a walk-in humidor for fine cigars and regular themed wine, spirits and beer tastings. Its inventory includes 8,000 wines, 3,000 spirits and 2,500 beers. One new feature is the addition of iPads near the store’s tasting section, which allow customers to explore meal ideas and wine pairings and print recipes from Wine Spectator.

Total Wine, which has over 80 locations and annual revenues of $1 billion, also plans to expand into the Washington and New Mexico markets this year, extending its footprint to 14 states.
