Yard House Plans Major Expansion In 2012 And Beyond

June 8, 2012

Following the launch of its 38th location earlier this month, beer-focused restaurant chain Yard House will add more units by year-end, president and CEO Harald Hermann tells Shanken News Daily.

The newest Yard House location is in Boca Raton, Florida and is the company’s fourth Florida unit. Yard House will add new venues in Lone Tree, Colorado on July 1 and West Nyack, New York (its second New York location) on July 29. New openings in Raleigh, North Carolina and Northridge, California will be unveiled later in the year.

Yard House, which currently operates in 13 states, will enter the Pacific Northwest next year with an opening in downtown Seattle and also will add its first Ohio location, in Cincinnati.

Yard House units typically feature 130 draft beer handles, pouring a mix of core offerings and local and regional brews. Recently, the Irvine, California-based chain has begun stocking a small selection of unique bottled beers at select locations. The craft beer craze has helped the chain maintain an average annual unit growth of about 15%. “It’s been a validation for us,” Hermann says of craft beer’s popularity. “It shows that we’re on the right track.”
