•Heaven Hill is introducing Evan Williams Apple Orchard seasonal apple cider liqueur in time for the fall. The Bourbon-based offering will be available nationwide September through November. Evan Williams Apple Orchard (17% abv) will be pre-sold by Heaven Hill’s national network of wholesalers and will be available only until shipments are depleted. Priced at $11.99 a 750-ml., Apple Orchard will be packaged in the traditional Evan Williams bottle, but the label will feature fall colors and stylized apple illustrations. Evan Williams has had success with other recent extensions. Its 35%-abv flavored whiskies—Honey Reserve, Cherry Reserve and Cinnamon Reserve—are expected to surpass 150,000 cases in combined volume in 2012, according to senior brand manager for whiskies Susan Wahl.
•Constellation’s Svedka vodka has added a Piña Colada-inspired flavor extension. Svedka Colada is infused with coconut, pineapple and a hint of mango. Available in 50-ml., 375-ml. and 750-ml. bottles, the new offering is priced at $12.99 a 750-ml. Svedka Colada joins the brand’s six existing flavors, which include Citron, Clementine, Vanilla, Cherry, Raspberry and Grape. Earlier this year, Svedka senior vice president of marketing Marina Hahn told Shanken News Daily that the accessibly priced vodka import is expected to approach 4 million cases for 2012.
•Kobrand Corp. has released a new offshoot to its Alizé liqueur brand, Alizé Coco. A blend of coconut and passion fruit flavors infused into French vodka, the extension comes in a newly designed clear bottle with a unique front label. Coco (20% abv) is available nationwide and retails for $19.99 a 750-ml. The Alizé range also features Pomegranate, Gold Passion, Red Passion, Bleu Passion and Rose Passion.
•Republic National Distributing Co. (RNDC) has promoted Joe Gigliotti to the role of executive vice president of control states. He will report directly to Sim Byrd, RNDC’s president, control states. Gigliotti most recently served as president of RNDC Virginia, a position he had held since first joining the RNDC sales leadership team in 1999. Prior to RNDC, Gigliotti spent 11 years with Washington, D.C. distributor Forman Brothers Inc., serving in various leadership roles including vice president/general sales manager for Forman Distributing Company of Virginia.
•The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board (PLCB) has introduced its free Fine Wine & Good Spirits e-commerce app for Android smartphones. The app was initially launched back in January for iPhones, and has now expanded to Androids. The Fine Wine & Good Spirits app allows users to browse the PLCB’s selection of nearly 40,000 products, including sale items and promotional offers, as well as get directions to the closest PLCB outlet. The app also allows registered users to purchase any of the 2,500 PLCB products available for online sale. Since launching for iPhones in January, the Fine Wine & Good Spirits app has been downloaded by more than 12,200 iPhone users.
