•Portland, Oregon-based Widmer Brothers Brewing has released the sixth beer in its limited-edition Brothers’ Reserve series, Kill Devil Brown Ale. A Caribbean-inspired offering, Kill Devil is brewed with palm sugar and molasses, and then aged in rum barrels from Puerto Rico’s Destilería Serrallés. The 9.5%-abv brew will be available on draft and in 22-ounce bottles at select retailers, with a suggested retail price of $13.99 a bottle. According to Widmer Brothers, Devil Kill is “the most limited release of the Brothers’ Reserve beers to date.” Widmer Brothers Brewing is part of the Craft Brew Alliance, which was formed through the merger of Widmer and Seattle’s Redhook Brewing in 2008.
•Kansas City, Missouri’s Boulevard Brewing says it won’t produce its limited-edition Chocolate Ale variant next year, stating, “It’s no secret that Boulevard faced challenges during the two previous releases of the popular seasonal beer, not least of which was satisfying surprisingly strong consumer demand. The company is actively working on several initiatives to help overcome these challenges.” With Chocolate Ale departing next year, Boulevard will unveil two new additions to its seasonal lineup, 80-Acre Hoppy Wheat and Reverb Imperial Pilsner.
•Sports pub chain Beef ‘O’ Brady’s has purchased The Brass Tap, a Florida-based network of craft beer and wine bars. The deal, of which financial details were not disclosed, gives Beef ‘O’ Brady’s the chance to expand the network through new franchise opportunities. The Brass Tap currently has locations in Wesley Chapel, Brandon and Trinity and is slated to open another location in South Tampa this summer and in Carrollwood and Orlando by early next year. It offers 40-60 different craft beers on tap, more than 300 varieties of imports, local craft beers and a selection of wines and cigars. The founders of The Brass Tap will remain as shareholders, partners and owners of the three current franchises in Florida.
