Walgreens To Launch Second Upscale Unit In Chicago
June 27, 2012Walgreens has announced plans to open its second upscale unit in Chicago, in the Tribune Tower, next summer. The new 25,000-square-foot venue’s design will be based on the Walgreens store that opened earlier this year in Chicago’s Loop, with such high-end features as a Take Care Clinic with on-site nurse practitioners, professional beauty services, fresh sushi and smoothie bars, and expanded wine, beer and spirits offerings.
The new Tribune Tower Walgreens will complement an existing 11,398-square-foot Walgreens across the street. That unit will undergo renovations to offer more fresh food options. Walgreens hasn’t disclosed how many upscale stores it’s planning nationwide, but the company is eying former Borders bookstore locations nationwide for possible expansion.
