July 13, 2012

•Portland, Maine-based Shipyard Brewing has leased space at Memphis, Tennessee contract facility City Brewing in order to increase its production capacity. Shipyard has installed several open-fermentation tanks in the new space, which will allow the craft brewer to add 30,000 barrels to its existing capacity of 180,000 barrels. Additionally, the Memphis facility’s equipment will allow Shipyard to package its products in cans for the first time. Founded in 1994, Shipyard produces a variety of year-round and specialty brews—including its popular Shipyard Export Ale and fall seasonal Pumpkinhead Ale—and has a distribution footprint of 21 states. In 2011, the brewer reported production of 129,285 barrels, a 31.7% volume increase from 2010. For this year, Shipyard is projecting a production total of 185,000 cases.
