Foley To Market Langtry Estate & Vineyards

July 18, 2012

Bill Foley of Foley Family Wine Estates has completed the first of what he recently told Shanken News Daily could be several deals this summer, agreeing to market the wines of Langtry Estate & Vineyards from California’s Guenoc Valley.

Langtry owns a 23,000-acre estate that straddles Lake and Napa Counties and has 400 acres under vine. Under the Langtry and Guenoc brands, the winery produces around 175,000 cases annually.

Langtry offers four tiers, including Langtry Single Vineyard Wines at the high end and Guenoc California Selection wines in the value segment. In between are its premium single-AVA Guenoc Lake County wines and Bordeaux blend Guenoc North Coast Victorian Claret. Langtry’s Guenoc Petite Sirah and Guenoc California Selection Sauvignon Blanc are among its top sellers.

Langtry president Easton Manson said the Foley organization’s “expertise and execution will be invaluable in our efforts to expand sales and distribution across the country for all of our tiers, especially our Guenoc California Selection wines which feature new packaging and redesigned labels.”

Bill Foley added, “Langtry and Guenoc are the two most recognizable and important brands from Lake County. The addition of their wines will strengthen our portfolio and help us gain access to a number of important national and regional accounts.”

Prior to the Langtry deal, Foley told Shanken News Daily he expected to produce and sell around 700,000 cases in the U.S. this year across his Lincourt, Sebastiani, Chalk Hill, Firestone, Merus and Kuleto brands among others. Another 80,000 cases will be imported from Foley’s New Zealand business. The New Zealand holdings, including the pending acquisition of New Zealand Wine Company (still subject to shareholder and regulatory approval), will produce around 650,000 cases this year.

Foley said he’s currently focused on adding appellations to the portfolio, and several more deals could follow in the coming months, with Dry Creek, Russian River Valley and Oregon all on the radar. “If I fill those out, I’ve pretty much got what I need in terms of base coverage. Then I’d just be opportunistic,” he said.
